Bartosz Dobrzelecki

Locality: Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Summary: Bartosz is an expert software engineer with extensive experience in distributed data processing systems. Whilst working on his Master's thesis in Medical Physics he got interested in parallel programming and after finishing his degree arrived in Edinburgh to study High Performance Computing. After obtaining an MSc in HPC in 2005 he joined the EPCC where he has worked since as an Applications Consultant. His recent work includes integrating distributed medical data, streamed processing of astronomical observations and development of external memory algorithms for analysis of large post-genomic data. He is most proud of his work on distributed query processing in the OGSA-DAI project. Although most of his projects are focused on distributed systems, he does not shy away from pure HPC activities. He has worked with several scientific codes on the largest UK supercomputers. He is also keen to share his experience. He has supervised MSc students, summer interns and mentored Google Summer of Code projects. In his career he has worked as a software engineer, a technical reviewer, a researcher and a project leader. In his spare time he makes things and tries to stay in touch with recent developments in contemporary performing arts.
